The person behind the practice.

I'm Dr. Garrett Holt, a licensed psychologist who works with adults living with the effects of trauma, and with the anxiety, low mood and exhaustion that often come with it.

I came to this work slowly, and I practice slowly. Most people who find me have already tried to push through. Here we begin with steadiness: what helps you feel safe in the room, in your body and in your week.

My methods include EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, with psychodynamic and attachment-based ideas in the background. None of them starts until you understand what it asks of you and say yes.

You can say 'not today', slow down or stop at any point. I tell you what we are about to do before we do it. Some sessions are quiet, some are angry, and some are mostly about getting through the week. All of it is welcome here.

Through the Thorns

Some things are easier to carry when you are not facing them alone. The work here is slow on purpose: steadiness first, and the hard places only when you say you are ready.

    Steadiness

We build steadiness first, before we go near anything hard.

  • A man and a woman talk in facing armchairs between two potted plants in a white room

    Choice

You decide what we talk about, and you can say stop at any point.

  • Cupped hands hold a pile of sprouting seeds

    Repair

We make room for rest and repair, at the pace your body sets.
